Locking system:
A special operating key is used for raising or lowering the inner column. In both situations, the column is locked in place by a spring-operated locking pin. The column will automatically brake and come to a stop, if the key should come loose while raising or lowering the column. A pinching injury of feet or fingers is prevented in this way.
