FAQ
Bicycle parking systems
I find that I am coming across the word FietsParKeur more and more regularly, what does it actually mean?
Reply
A number of years ago a standard was introduced that applied to bicycle parking systems, it was called FietsParKeur. This standard contains a large number of requirements that a bicycle parking system has to meet in order to be approved. These include ease of use, the prevention of damage to the bicycle and the prevention of theft.
Should every bicycle rack meet the “FietsParKeur” standard?

No. It is not mandatory, but it does indicate that a system meets the strict requirements in the area of bicycle parking. It is possible to apply for the standard for a particular bicycle parking system. The system will then be assessed and tested by an external committee and when the assessment is positive the system will receive FietsParKeur approval.
What exactly is stainless steel?

Stainless steel is a material that we use widely in the VelopA-product range. While stainless steel 304 would probably be sufficient we generally use stainless steel 316. By the way, Stainless steel is a material that can rust too! Where the surface becomes damaged (comes into contact with a lower type of steel, for example iron) a thin layer of fly rust will form. This will not rust further and can be simply polished off (for example with autocommandant). It is called stainless steel in daily life but it isn’t really!
